Medina Café needs a Kitchen Manager to take over the operations of our kitchen staff. We are looking for a creative and motivated person who does not mind contributing to prep work or delivering food when necessary. The job requires more than 40 hours per week with some nights and weekends each month. Experience with delegating tasks and maintaining fast speed of service is an asset.

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

Kitchen Manager organize work flow and decide which tasks need to be done on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Kitchen Manager ensures that each job gets completed according to schedule.  Must have the ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

 

  • Customer-Service: Kitchen managers might have to interact with customers. Being friendly and courteous will help keep customers coming back. Kitchen managers will also be responsible in addressing customers’ complaints and concerns
  • Attention to Detail: Kitchen managers have to keep their eyes on a lot of elements: food standards, costs, safety, etc., Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily operations, Ensure health and safety regulations are followed, Keeping accurate records,
  • Leadership: Kitchen managers must be leaders in the back of house, rallying their team during heavy shifts, resolving conflicts and getting the job done.
  • Management Skills: Kitchen managers not only deal with food, they also have to deal with costs, pricing, creating work schedules and more, Negotiate arrangements with suppliers for food and other supplies, Negotiate with clients for catering or use of facilities, Determine type of services to be offered and implement operational procedures, Develop, implement and analyze budgets, Set staff work schedules and monitor staff performance, Recruit, train and supervise staff, Conduct performance reviews, Motivate staff during demanding and busy service periods
  • Organizational Skills: Keeping work schedules, shipments, cleaning schedules and more organized is crucial to the job. Monitor revenues and modify procedures and prices, Balance cash and complete balance sheets, cash reports and related forms,
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Dealing with employee conflict, irate customers and wrong stock orders is part of a kitchen managers’ job. Being able to come up with a solution quickly is a needed skill.
  • Speaking Skills: Kitchen managers need to accurately and easily communicate standards and cooking methods to staff, give orders and speak with customers clearly.
  • Inventory: Organize and maintain inventory
  • Stamina: Kitchen managers can expect long days around hot cooking elements, much of it on their feet.
